Sometimes the best thing you can do is help someone find a way to get out of a bullying situation.
If you see someone being bullied, and it feels safe to do so, tell them that a teacher needs to see them in their classroom right away. It might be just the excuse they need to get out of the situation.
Giving someone who has been bullied an excuse to walk away can help interrupt bullying before it gets out of hand. You could announce to everyone that you are going to do something else (like playing soccer or getting food).
Only when and if it feels safe, you can help a target get away by taking the person’s hand and literally pulling them away from the situation.
Consider phrases like, “Sorry, I need to borrow ___ right now,” or “Hey, they just called you down to the principal’s office.”
